2. Attivita` sociali passate e future

 

È motivo di estrema soddifazione riscontrare il grandissimo successo dei primi quattro concerti della Rassegna Insulae Harmonicae 2012. Durante il primo concerto (Isola Bella, 7 ottobre) sono stati raccolti 200 euro, già versati con bonifico bancario alla Associazione Italiana Ricerca sul Cancro – sezione Lombardia.

Nel secondo e quarto concerto sono stati raccolti altri 200 euro in totale, che verranno destinati ad un ulteriore versamento benefico.

Segnaliamo poi con particolare piacere e commozione che l’evento di Cannero Riviera del 13 ottobre, grazie alla bravura di Enrico Beruschi, del maestro Umberto Zanarelli e di quanti – fondazioni, enti, associazioni, privati – si sono prodigati per la riuscita della serata, ha permesso di raccogliere ben milleseicentocinquanta euro, immediatamente donati alla Fondazione Hollman di Cannero Riviera per i bambini con deficit visivi, totali o parziali. Un grazie, cordiale, sentito e caloroso a quanti hanno capito gli sforzi dell’associazione per cercare di aiutare chi ha bisogno sul lago e non solo di fare cultura di lago.

 

Non è finita: altri quattro concerti sono in programma, con medesime finalità benefiche! Quindi il Magazzeno Storico Verbanese attende gli appassionati di musica barocca (e spera nel loro concreto aiuto) a Brisino il 4 novembre prossimo, a Verbania il 10 novembre (con il primo dei due concerti a sostegno del Museo del Paesaggio), a Magognino il 18 novembre, e ancora a Verbania il giorno 8 dicembre (ancora a sostegno del Museo del Paesaggio): per apprezzare il piacere della musica e beneficenza insieme.

 

Segnaliamo che a causa del successo riscontrato, si è dovuto (con gran piacere) procedere alla ristampa del racconto, pubblicato per i tipi del Magazzeno Storico Verbanese e opera prima di Pietro Pisano, “Monte Pedum. La leggenda del Coda Rossa”, in cui si narrano la scoperta e la ricostruzione, ad opera di un giornalista degli anni Trenta del Novecento, della vicenda (a metà tra fantastico e reale), di un bracconiere ottocentesco che trovò la morte alle pendici del Monte Pedum. Ma attenzione... si sta esaurendo anche le seconda tiratura!

 

Con dicembre verrà alle stampe il nuovo volume di Vallintrasche per il 2012. Chi fosse curioso di saperne anteprime e contenuti... non ha che chiedere amicizia al gruppo facebook del sodalizio “Vallintrasche” (una delle due pagine della nostra associazione: l’altra sta in “insulae harmonicae”) e leggersi tutte le notizie (compresa questa newsletter). Le due pagine facebook sono in continua effervescenza: merito di alcuni soci che le tengono aggiornate quasi quotidianamente.

 

Altra sorpresa quasi natalizia viene dal socio Luciano Besozzi: sarà pronto intorno all’Immacolata la coedizione del volume (che si prevede di circa 260 pagine) sulle vicende civili e religiose dei due villaggi di Barzola e Capronno, oggi frazioni di Angera: due luoghi di antichissima storia e di belle atmosfere. Chi volesse acquistare il volume, non dimentichi che esso rappresenta la chiusura della trilogia angerese che Luciano Besozzi ha steso dedicando alla città e alle frazioni in epoca Moderna e Ottocento quasi mille pagine, tra testi cartacei e appendici elettroniche.

 

Prosegue la distribuzione del volume, specialistico e interessante, di atti del convegno sulle Viae Crucis, “Crucem Tuam Adoramus” (462 pagine e un CD contenente le immagini di due volumi seicenteschi, circa quattrocento immagini a corredo delle relazioni ospitate nel volume, testi aggiuntivi e fonti documentali per circa altre centocinquanta pagine). Dopo a fine della promozione, il costo è ora di euro 45, ma per favorire gli interessati all’acquisto si è deciso di inviare senza spese di spedizione; per informazioni e richieste si prega di rivolgersi via mail a segreteria@verbanensia.org o info@verbanensia.org Si prevedono momenti di presentazione a Milano, Novara, Verbania a partire da settembre: di tali occasioni verrà data notizia nelle pagine del sito sociale. Ringraziamo i non pochi che già hanno acquistato il volume, consentendo al sodalizio di fronteggiare spese non lievi di stampa e di guardare ai prossimi impegni editoriali e di studio.

 

L’associazione sta curando la preparazione del volume degli atti del convegno tenuto dal sodalizio nel 2010 e dedicato a san Carlo Borromeo nel IV centenario della canonizzazione (“Norma del Clero, Speranza del gregge”); il volume verrà verosimilmente pronto per la fine anno, con un impegno di pagine e un corredo di immagini su supporto CD paragonabile e anzi probabilmente maggiore a quello appena del volume di atti del convegno sulle Viae Crucis, “Crucem Tuam Adoramus”.

 

Infine, è allo studio di un gruppo di lavoro interno al sodalizio il potenziamento e redesign del sito sociale, che dopo dodici anni di attività ha concluso la prima fase tecnica di vita, ed è pronto per entrare in un nuovo momento evolutiva. A tale proposito, viste le sorprese e le nuove sezioni di cui verrà dotato il sito sociale, si raccomanda il rinnovo ai soci già iscritti in passato, o il sostegno tramite la nuova iscrizione per il 2012. Nelle pagine del sito verranno a breve inserite il nuovo statuto, il modulo di richiesta, e gli estremi per i versamenti sul conto bancario dell’associazione: il sostegno, oltre ad aiutare il sodalizio a sostenere l’opera culturale svolta per il lago e le sue terre, permette di sviluppare nuovi progetti, e definire altre iniziative per i tempi futuri.

3. Curiosita` dal sito del MSV...

 

Pesce bianco e pesce nero

 

La dizione di “pesce bianco”, nota sul lago Maggiore per indicare il pesce di scarso valore, non trova oggi controparte nel “pesce nero”, a connotare il pesce di qualità; la dizione si trovava invece un tempo viva in zone fluviali, lagune e valli salse, laghi di basso fondale e salmastri. Gli studi, datati 1871, di Adolfo Targioni Tozzetti (La pesca in Italia. Documenti raccolti per cura del Ministero di agricoltura, industria e commercio del regno d`Italia, Genova 1871) riportano che il “pesce nero” era pescato nella laguna di Orbetello e consisteva di anguille, mentre il “pesce bianco” era costituito da “cefali, mazzardi, codirossi spigole, acerate, aguglie, ghiozzi” (sul Verbano il pesce bianco, quindi vile, erano invece i cavedani e altri pesci di fondo...); la distinzione del termine “pesce bianco” e “pesce nero” ritorna in un documento del 1629 relativo ai beni fondiari del conte Carlo III Borromeo nel territorio di Formigara Cremonese, alla “Rotta”: gli affittuari delle «pescaggioni delle aque morte che restano nei terreni circonvicini al fiume d’Adda», dette “mortizze” pagavano cento ducatoni annuali d’affitto, e in più consegnavano «libbre 200 pesce nero, che vuol dire pesce del migliore che vi sii, fuor che trutta, et lb. 100 pesce bianco, che vuol dire arborelle, et simili» (Archivio Borromeo Isola Bella, Famiglia Borromeo, Carlo III)

2. MSV Past and Future Activities

We are very pleased with the huge success of the first four concerts of Rassegna Insulae Harmonicae 2012. On the occasion of the first concert (Isola Bella, 7th October) two hundred euros have been collected and already sent with bank transfer to Associazione Italiana Ricerca sul Cancro – sezione Lombardia.

With the second and fourth concert another two hundred euros have been collected, which will be destined to another charitable institution.

We are also pleased to inform that the event held at Cannero Riviera on October 13th, thanks to the skills of Enrico Beruschi, Umberto Zanarelli and all those institutions, organizations, associations and private citizens who have worked for the success of the evening, has enabled us to collect up to 1650 euros, which we immediately transferred to Fondazione Hollman of Cannero Riviera for children with total or partial sight defect. Our sincere thanks to all those who have understood the efforts of our association to help people in difficulty and not just to provide knowledge of the lake.

It’s not all: four more concerts are on schedule with charitable aims! The Magazzeno Storico Verbanese welcomes the people fond of baroque music (and confides in their tangible help) to Brisino next November 4th, to Verbania on 10th November (the first of the two concerts in support of the Museo del Paesaggio), to Magognino on 18th November, and finally to Verbania on 8^th December (also in support of the Museo del Paesaggio): in order to enjoy the pleasure of music and charity together..

 

Due to the success obtained by the tale published for the types of Magazzeno Storico Verbanese and first work of Pietro Pisano, “Monte Pedum. La leggenda del Coda Rossa”, in which are narrated the discovery and the reconstruction, by a journalist of the 1930’s, of a poacher’s story set in the nineteenth century, (halfway between real and imaginary), who met death on the slopes of Monte Pedum, we had (with great pleasure) to have the tale reprinted, and it is already selling out!

 

Starting from December, the new volume of Vallentrasche for 2012 will be printed. Should anybody be interested in previews and contents... he just has to ask the facebook group of the association “Vallintrasche” (one of the two pages of our association: the other one being in “Insulae Harmonicae”) for friendship and read all the news (this newsletter included). The two pages facebook are very active: this is thanks to the contribution of some members who keep them up to date almost daily.

 

Another surprise, almost a Christmas one, comes from our member Luciano Besozzi: just around Immacolata Conception Day will be ready the coedition of the volume (which will be about 260 pages) on the civil and religious events of the two villages of Barzola and Capronno, now hamlets of Angera: two places of ancient history and beautiful atmospheres. People who wish to buy the volume shouldn’t forget that it represents the conclusion of the Angerese trilogy that Luciano Besozzi has written, with almost a thousand pages, including paper texts and electronic appendixes, about the town and its hamlets in Modern times and in the nineteenth century.

 

At the same time, we are going on with the distribution of the volume, much more specialized, but as interesting, on the conference about Viae Crucis “Crucem Tuam Adoramus” (a total 462 pages and a CD containing the images of two seventeenth century volumes, about four hundred images accompanying the reports contained in the volume, supplementary texts and documental sources for about another one hundred and fifty pages).

The price is now 45 euros, but we have decided to send the book free of charges in order to favour those who are interested in it.; for information and requests you can apply to segreteria@verbanensia.org or info@verbanensia.org We are planning moments of presentation in Milan, Novara, Verbania; we will give information about these events in the pages of our social site. We thank the numerous people who have already bought the volume, giving us the chance to cope with the printing costs and to plan new publishing and study activities.

 

 

We have also started the preparation of the volume containing the documents of the conference held in 2010 and dedicated to san Carlo Borromeo in the IV centenary of his canonization (“Norma del Clero, Speranza del gregge”); the volume is likely to be ready by the end of the year. It consists of numerous pages and a set of images on CD as rich or perhaps even richer than the one which has just been printed on the conference about Viae Crucis, “Crucem Tuam Adoramus”.

Following the successful outcome of the past edition 2011, we are going to launch the third edition of the Rassegna Insulae Harmonicae, which will include a series of concerts for late 2012 autumn (end of October – beginning of December). Our next season will present a richer offer, with up to eight events, on a territory including Stresa and its suburbs, Verbania and Cannero Riviera. At the top of this newsletter you’ll find the calendar of the events (details of the programme in the pages of our social website).

 

A work group, composed by members of the association, is also considering the expansion and redesigning of our website, which after twelve years has concluded its first technical phase and is ready to face a new step in its evolution. With regards to this, considering the surprises and the new sections with which our website will be endowed, we remind all the members of our association who still haven’t done it to renew their membership for the present year; we also hope to have the support of new members for the year 2012: in the pages of our site will be included the new statute, the application form, and the details for the deposits into the association current account: people’s contribution helps the association to support the cultural initiatives for the lake and its territory, it enables to develop new projects and plan more initiatives for future times.

3. Curiosa from the MSV website...

 

White fish and black fish.

 

The phrase “white fish”, used on Lake Maggiore to mean fish of little value, nowadays doesn’t have a counterpart in “black fish”, to mean quality fish; the phrase, instead, was commonly used in the past in areas around rivers, lagoons and salty valleys, lakes with salty shallow waters. Studies dating back to 1871, by Adolfo Targioni Tozzetti (La pesca in Italia. Documenti raccolti per cura del Ministero di agricoltura, industria e commercio del regno d`Italia, Genova 1871) say that “black fish” was caught in the lagoon of Orbetello and it consisted of eels, whereas “white fish” included “grey mullets, mazzardi, redtails bass, acerate, garfish, gobies” (on Verbano white fish, thus poor quality, was chub and other fish of deep water...); the distinction of the phrases “white fish” and “black fish” can also be found in a document of 1629 dealing with the landing properties of Count Carlo III Borromeo in the territory of Formigara Cremonese, at the “Rotta”: the renters of the «fished qualities of the ‘dead waters’ (i.e. ponds and closed lagoons) near Adda river», called “mortizze” used to pay a hundred ducats a year for the rent, and, in addition to this, they delivered «pounds 200 of black fish, that is high quality fish and pounds 100 of white fish, that is bleaks and the like» (Archivio Borromeo Isola Bella, Famiglia Borromeo, Carlo III)
